Tricare Policy Would Hit Reserves Hardest

Media sources are reporting that 171,000 Tricare beneficiaries may be moved from Tricare Prime to Tricare Standard if they don’t live within a 40-miles catchment radius of a military treatment facility.  This could affect retirees under age 65 and military families. Tricare Prime is intended as a medical professional network for outsourcing of services that military treatment facilities can’t handle.  This change in policy would occur on April 1, 2013, when the new Tricare contract goes into effect.

Military Voting Rights

CAPT Samuel F. Wright, JAGC, USN (Ret.) is the director of ROA's Service Members Law Center.

Another Election Day has gone by with service members excluded

In reflection of Veterans Day, let us redouble our efforts to ensure that those who protect the rights that we all enjoy are able to exercise those rights themselves.  The right to vote is the most basic and important of all our precious rights.  The Supreme Court has referred to the right to vote as "preservative of all other rights."  Yick Wo v. Hopkins, 118 U.S. 356, 370 (1886).
